Fictional Characters are Fun

Standard

Today we solider through Day 18 of the workbook.  The boys are beginning to get excited because the first section is almost complete!  “Only 2 more pages left of green!” has been the battle cry around here.  I can’t say that I blame them, but it really seems that the summer is flying by!

The journal topic for today was “The fictional character that I would like to meet is…”  K thought it would be awesome to meet the characters from Green Eggs and Ham.  I think a real live Dr. Seuss might be a bit scary for a 6 year old.  Whereas, A thought that it would be pretty cool to meet Captain Underpants.  I found his story about meeting the “Real Captain Underpants” rather humorous.

Saving our Water

Standard

The boys learned a lot yesterday from the water experiment about the water cycle.  Today I thought that I would expound upon that idea and discuss pollution of our waterways.  (Climate change and global warming aside, water pollution is a real thing.  If you don’t believe me go to any beach or waterway in your town and take a look around.  Everywhere I look I see plastic bottles, knotted up fishing line, and other garbage thrown into the lakes, rivers, or oceans.  It is disgusting, and it is up to us to stop it.  Now I shall exit my soap box….)  So, after they completed Day 13 in their work books, we picked up our journals, and wrote about how we can help care for our water ways.  The boys came up with some excellent ideas on how recycling, or simply picking up after ourselves, can help keep our water ways clean, and enjoyable for future generations. 🙂
